A man appearing in his mid-twenties sat in a chair at the back of the main room in the Hideaki Gym of Periwinkle Village. His short, silver hair was slightly messy and he had pale skin with piercing red eyes. He wore a pair of faded blue jeans with a long, black trenchcoat and no shirt underneath. Around his neck was a silver medalion in the shape of a bird. He had a serious look on his face as he stared vacantly and bored at the door, just waiting for someone to enter. Though he was tired of travelling, he did miss the frequent Pokemon battles, which made it hard to be a Gym Leader in such a remote and tiny village. Not many people came through here. Still, he wouldn't have chosen any other location. If he had built a gym in a big city, this building, the dojo where he had been raised and the home of his late master would have been condemned. He couldn't let a place that held so many memories for him be torn down. Next to the man sat a female Fearow. She was beautiful and majestic, and her feathers had a healthy shine to them. She nudged her master and best friend, in a friendly manner and he smiled up at her. "You're bored too, huh Sequoia?" he asked. "Well, don't worry. Even if nobody comes in, we can go out into the woods later for a little bit of training." He stroked the side of her beak gently and she squawked quietly in response.

Soon someone came walking into the gym, hands stuffed in his pockets. The usual fierce look in his eyes was upon his face, the boy slowly approaching towards where the gym leader was located. "Are you the gym leader?" He asked, continuing to keep a serious look to him as if this wasn't a game.

The man first looked up at the boy then stood slowly. "Yeah, thats me," he said. "Name's Senegal." Sequoia looked at the boy as well now. She seemed somehow eager, hoping that he was here for a battle. But then wasn't that the only reason anybody came to a Pokemon Gym? In any case, she was prepared and looked Fierce as she gazed at the boy, hoping for a challenge.

Paul closed his eyes for a minute, smirking, then opened them once again. He wasn't intimidated by the large Fearow sitting beside him in the slightest. "Name's Paul, and I'm here to challenge you to a gym battle." He declared smoothly.

Senegal grinned at this, determination in his eyes. "Well, well," he said. "We don't get many trainers looking for a badge around these parts. I'll gladly accept your challenge. Just don't think that my Pokemon will be any weaker than those of the Gym Leaders in the big cities." It was quite the contrary actually. Senegal trained his Pokemon hard everyday. He strode to the other side of the gym, ready to battle. He was going to summon his Murkrow at first but when he looked into Sequoia's eyes, he saw how eager she was. He liked to save her for the finale, but this time he could tell she wanted to go first, and he nodded at her in response. "So Paul, its up to you. One on one, two on two, or just keep sending them out until one of us runs out of Pokemon." He had four himself. Sequoia of course and then there was a Hoot-Hoot named Rufus, a Murkrow named Vasco, and a Pidgeotto named Seraphina.

Paul had six pokemon himself, and he shrugged at the question while walking to the opposing side. "It doesn't matter to me, though the last option sounds interesting," He said simply, taking out a pokeball and already knowing who he was going to select. He had six Pokemon; Torterra, Electabuzz, Weavile, Gliscor, Honchcrow, and Magmar. Either way he felt confident in his ability to win no matter what the stakes were.

"Then until one of us runs out of Pokemon it is," Senegal replied with a smirk. "Alright, Sequoia, you're up first." As he said this, the Fearow squawked then flapped her great wings, moving to the battle area of the gym and stared confidently at Paul as she waited for him to send out her first opponent.

"Hmph, figures," Paul mumbled with a smirk. "Honchcrow, standby for battle!!" He declared while throwing his pokeball out, releasing the flying type pokemon. It had a fierce glare in its eyes as it looked on towards the Fearow, ready for battle as well.

Sequoia looked on, determination apparent in her expression and she almost seemed to smile. And Senegal knew exactly what was on her mind. "Well, it looks like Sequoia wants your Honchcrow to attack first," he said. As he said this, the Fearow nodded slightly, confirming this. Eager as she was, she wanted to see her opponent's moves first. If she had some idea of skill level, she would know how careful she would have tio be, whether for her opponent's sake or for her own.

Paul nodded, looking up at his Honchcrow. "Honchcrow, Wing Attack." He declared firmly, his bird pokemon swooping straight at the gym leader's pokemon at a fast pace, keeping an eye on whatever it does.

Senegal smirked at this. "Sequoia, avoid then counter with Fly," he called out. On his command, the Fearow flapped her large wings and swiftly flew into the air stopping just a few feet away from the ceiling then dove fiercely at Honchcrow for a counterattack.

Paul continued to look calm and confident, unmoving as he called out his counter. "Wing Attack, then Haze." He demanded, Honchcrow quickly swooping around straight at Sequoia, the birds pretty much pounding into one another. If its connects; Paul's pokemon WOULD be disoriented, though would quickly move to creating a thick, dark haze that began to fill the battlefield they were in. At least their aerial battlefield.

Both Bird Pokemon collided with one another. Sequoia was sent backwards by the force of the collision and seemed dizzy. She shook her head then by flapping her wings truned her fall back into graceful flight. The cloud of haze made it difficult to see however and she looked around, coughing as she flapped her wings to stay in the air.
Senegal could not see the battling Pokemon now and so could only take this time to think of what command to give next, though he knew Sequoia would be in danger if he didn't think of something quickly.

Paul smirked, watching the direction in which his Honchcrow was facing. "Night Slash, dead ahead." He said calmly, his pokemon nodding while shooting forward, slashing at the gym leader's bird with claws aplenty, aiming to take it down here.

Hearing this, Senegal's eyes widened. "Sequoia, fly lower," he called. This would serve to get her out of the way and to put her where he could see her. The Fearow obeyed and narrowly dodged the attack. The only thing bother Senegal now was the haze itself. If they were outside, he could simply have Sequoia blow it away with Whirlwind. But this was not the case. "Stay low and wait for Honchcrow to come to you," Senegal commanded.
